What You'll Learn

Guitar Melody Theory

As a guitarist and Instructor, I have spent the last couple of decades learning and applying melody theory in gigs, private lessons, music composition and recording projects.  This course represents all of the most essential elements of melody including the major, minor and pentatonic scales.  I’ll share helpful graphic depictions of the fretboard.  You’ll learn efficient fingering and demystify the origins of common guitar scales.

Where You’ll Start…

You’ll start with an orientation about scales, keys and the formula for building scales from the chromatic scale (the musical alphabet).  You’ll have the aid of printable guitar tab, graphics and animations during the process – making comprehension easier and more engaging.

Understand Melody Essentials

Learning how note names tell us about their musical relationships is at the heart of this course.  You’ll develop a robust understanding of where scales come from and why they’re comprised of specific notes.  Plus, you’ll discover that patterns on your guitar fretboard reinforce the music theory behind the scales themselves.

When You’re Finished…

If the origins of scales and melody are a mystery to you, then this course will unravel that mystery.  This course offers a starting point for guitarists who want to understand the elements of melody and where they come from (based on music theory).

Thanks for these lessons. Lots of great stuff packed in here. I probably could find this stuff on YouTube, but I’d rather have it laid out for me. Thanks!
