Thumb Bass (HOTRS)
What You'll Need For This Exercise...
How to Complete This Exercise...
This exercise is all about building independence for your thumb. Following these “rules” will improve your picking hand’s independence, strength and dexterity:
- Very important – keep your index, middle and ring fingers planted on the 3rd, 2nd and 1st strings (G, B and E respectively). Even though this exercise doesn’t use these three fingers, it is crucially important to keep them planted on *their* strings in order for your thumb to experience the challenge of independently playing.
- Make sure to change chords with your fretting hand as you play.
- Start slow, master it and then gradually speed up.
