Who should learn this skill?

Useful for guitarists getting started with the CAGED system or the common major, minor or pentatonic scale shapes/patterns.

Primary Concepts for This Skill

  1. The 5 octave patterns set a foundation for most of the CAGED system.
  2. The 5 octave patterns repeat up and down the neck in a predictable manner, so they can be used in any key!
  3. Memorizing the 5 octave patterns allows guitarists to ‘pin’ lots of useful fretboard patterns to them – such as chords, scales and arpeggios.
