This skill is all about developing your personal library of licks and phrases for soloing.
Primary Concepts for This Skill
- The most useful skill for soloing is to resolve your phrases to specific notes (usually the tonic of a chord).
- Being familiar with the 5 ‘shapes’ (scale patterns) related to the CAGED system is extremely important.
- Ideally, you should be comfortable with both the 7-tone and pentatonic scale ‘shapes’ and be able to correlate them to the 5 octave patterns.
